Association Technological Activities and Society
Question: Discuss about the Association Technological Activities and Society. Answer: Introduction: The association between technological activities and the day-to-day operations of the human life are almost inseparable. The society and technology have exhibited a recurrent co-independence on each other. Humans have a variety of uses of technology such as traveling, learning, business activities, and innovations (Kazmer Haythornthwaite, 2010). These uses of technology create an increasing demand and use of technology by the society. Moreover, the continued utilization and application for technology place the society at risk because people become too dependent on technology. This has called the need for the society to discern the proper type of technology to acquire and use. The immense challenge that the society is currently facing in regards to technology is the future that they anticipate and the relevant technology that they require to conduct their day-to-day activities. Moreover, technology has deemed the society captive in that the society cannot operate without technology. It is almost out of reach to dig deep and realize the type of each new and advanced technology and the impacts it has on the lives and the future of the people. It is clear that the new developments in technology have great impacts on the environment and the people. The way the society embrace and use the new technology reflects a lot on whether they will create a positive or a negative impact on their lives (Silvester, 2012). For instance, smartphones are useful tools for not only communication but some can be used for health purposes such as measuring pulse rate, which improves the quality of life of the people. On the other hand, the same smartphone can be used to engage in social sites that are addictive and render the user lazy and dysfunctional in societal activities. In this regard, new technology cannot be harmful to the society, but the way the society embraces it and use it makes it harmful. With the advent of technology the, the universe has experienced an immense change in the life of a common man. Technology has touched every aspect of the common man. The modern science and technology have rendered technology to be easily accessible to man. Technology has a day to day endeavors of a human being become easy and has tremendously reduced human effort. However, when the word technology is mention to common man, one can only think of the benefits that have come as a result of technology (Wickramasinghe et al., 2011). The technology has also brought some negative impacts to the lives of the common human being. The purpose of this paper is to examine various developments of new technology and how they relate to the common man. Also, this paper will address the negative impacts of the new technology about the common man. Positive impacts of technology Shopping is a mans exhilarating activity. A few years back, mention of the word shopping, one could only think of traveling to malls such as Costco and Walmart. However, shopping has gained a new definition now, online shopping. The internet has not only facilitated communication but also has eased the way common man used to view shopping. There are numerous online shopping sites nowadays. The most prevalent one is the e-bay. These online shopping platforms come with after sales services that offer free delivery. This means that individuals can conduct their shopping just while at home and then the purchased product is delivered right at their doorstep. Communication for has become easy because of the advancement of technology. Communication assists in solving many problems and entertains people. It is almost impossible to find a person not carrying a communication gadget. Mobile phone, Laptops have become normal in the contemporary society. The internet has played an immense role in the advancement of new technology. Almost all individuals owning a communication gadget is a social media such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, Instagram, and Snap chat among others (Cameron and Webster, 2013). Not so long ago people used to communicate using letters, but thanks to technology communication has become fast and easy through the use of mobile phones. The new advancement in technology has made food ordering convenient and easy. The modern man has become fond of ready-made foods and due to the current era, they find difficult time to prepare a homemade food. Individuals prefer to stay at home and carry on with their work and when they require eating, they source of ready-made food. The current technology has provided the common man with the facility to order food from restaurants, and they get their food delivered to their homes (Chinese Consumers Attitude towards Genetically Modified Foods-Taking Genetically Modified Soybean Oil as an Example, 2014). Due to the advancement in technology, an individual can satisfy their anger by the click of a button or rather by the touch of a screen. Transport has gained technological millage recently. Travelling is fun for most people. In the past, sourcing for traveling means a herculean task but that has changed with the new technology. For instance, the current development of transportation is Uber. This is a transport company that has an application free for android and IOS. Where an individual can ask for transport from Uber and the transport service come to where one is. Such kind of technological advancement in transportation has made people even more productive. Negative impacts of technology to society Technology, on the other hand, has negatively impacted on the lives of ordinary men and women. For instance, technology has put the lives of people at risk. Individuals share personal information online which at the end assist in ruining their lives. The use the social media such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram have contributed to eighty two percent of reported sex crimes where offenders check and prey individual preferences and use that against the victims (Behkami, Daim and Dorr, 2011). Also, the anonymity of the online platforms can also make it possible for other people to threaten others. Addiction is a major problem with the new technology. People are spending a lot of hours on their gadgets instead of doing seeming constructive with their lives. For instance, the advent of the mobile game, Pokmon Go was well received by the consumers both adults and children. However, adults forgo their duty at work and instead stick their eyes on their phones and direct their minds to focus on the game. Children, on the other hand, do not view their studies as important but instead focus on playing the game. New advancements in technologies have led to a lack of physical activities. This affects children and some adults who are fond of online activities such as gaming and spend all their leisure time on their computer screens thus increasing the chances of them becoming obese, which is a serious health issue (Sinha, 2015). In conclusion, the new technology is impossible to ignore. Every part of our lives is related to technology. Compared to the past decades, people are happy with what technology has brought such as better luxury and facilities. Technology has not confined itself to only a few areas of the human beings but as per the needs and wants of human beings. However, there are negative sides of inappropriate use of the new technology that people need to be aware of. Uses like obesity, security, and addiction have long term consequences that can be avoided by the right use of technology is put into practice. References Behkami, N., Daim, T. and Dorr, D. (2011).
